Measurements and guidance

Measurements, dimensions, paint coverage, rug sizes, lighting levels and other practical guidance on this site are general guidance for typical homes, in imperial and metric. They may vary by product, by manufacturer, and by country. Always measure your own room, check the manufacturer's instructions, and verify the numbers before ordering materials or starting work.

DIY and home improvement

DIY projects carry risks. Do not attempt electrical work, gas work, plumbing, or structural changes unless you are qualified, or unless you hire a qualified professional. Follow local building regulations and safety guidance, wear appropriate protective equipment, and stop if a project feels unsafe. We are not responsible for injury, damage or loss arising from a DIY project described on this site.

Calculators

Calculator results are estimates based on the numbers you enter and standard formulas. They are approximate and should be checked before ordering materials or starting work.
